– says that cricket has a clear developmental vision
While acknowledging that the discipline of cricket has a clearly defined vision, Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Co-Director Chris Bowman stated that other disciplines such as basketball lack that type of foresight required for their development, which is evident in their dearth of national infrastructure and investment.
This was disclosed in an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. According to Bowman, “The real question is one of strategic vision and what kind of architecture is needed to achieve those outcomes. If we were to use cricket as the yardstick. President Ali has articulated a strategic vision for the game. Which he said is to “position Guyana as the Mecca of Cricket.” Guyana now has CPL, GSL, and is on the verge of having five international cricket facilities by the end of next year. We also saw the rollout of the cricket academy with hundreds of young cricketers receiving equipment, and here again the president articulating his vision “to build a premier academy for cricket in order to develop world-class fast bowlers, spinners, and batsmen”.”
