-also aimed at rolling back Chinese competition The US EXIM Bank on Boxing Day gave final approval for a long-awaited US$527m loan for the government’s ambitious gas to energy project and its greenlighting is also part of the institution’s pushback against Chinese competition.

Man, 23, dies after Croal St and Winter Place collision

Police are investigating an accident which occurred at about 5.45 pm on Thursday  at the junction of Croal Street and Winter Place, Georgetown, which resulted in the death of a 23-year-old motorcyclist.  The accident involved motorcycle #CL 9507, ridden by Mikel Blair, a 23-year-old of Lot 261 ‘D’ Field Turkeyen, Georgetown, (now deceased); and another motorcycle ridden by Tavel Jonas, a 27-year-old from Lot 101 Arapaima Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown.  Enquiries disclosed that at about 5:55 pm on Thursday, a report was made to the Brickdam Police Station (Operations Room), informing ranks of an accident involving two motorcycles on Croal Street and Winter Place.

UNICEF hands over vaccine boats

As part of its efforts to improve the provision of essential medical services, particularly vaccination, to benefit children and families in the riverain communities of regions One and Eight, UNICEF [the United Nations Children’s Fund] utilising funds from the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI) COVID-19 vaccine Delivery Support (CDS), handed over two vaccination boats to the Ministry of Health yesterday.  A UNICEF release stated that the vaccine boats are the first of its kind in Guyana, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
