“Together We Can, Together We Will” – a melody of unity and hope won ERC jingle contest

The winners of the ERC’s 2024 Jingle Competition

The winning jingle of the Ethnic Relations Commission’s (ERC) 2024 Jingle Competition, “Together We Can, Together We Will,” is more than just a song – it’s an anthem of togetherness and unity. The song, written and performed by Adaiah Griffith, encapsulated the spirit of national pride, unity, and shared hope.

The lyrics begin with a powerful intro: “Together we stand, in love and pride, for Guyana, side by side…” These opening lines immediately set the tone, calling for collective action and pride in the nation’s rich diversity.  The verse paints a vision of harmony and one purpose… “One dream, one heart, one goal we share, building a future beyond compare, and it continues… “Different voices, one song we sing, in unity, let hope take wing.”

Griffith weaves a tapestry of inclusivity, reminding us that despite differences in background or ethnicity, Guyana’s strength lies in its unity.

The chorus stands out as a resounding call to action… “Together we can, together we will, with love and peace, we’ll make it real. Respect and kindness, strength we find, united, we leave no one behind.”

This section emphasises the values of respect, kindness, and collaboration, urging every Guyanese citizen to contribute to building a society where no one feels excluded.

Moreover, the outro in itself brings the song in full circle, celebrating the enduring strength of a unified Guyana… “One Guyana, one voice, one song, together we stand, forever strong.”

Griffith’s words reflected the ERC’s vision of fostering peace and cooperation in a multicultural society.

The jingle’s success stems from its ability to translate Guyana’s national motto – “One People, One Nation, One Destiny” – into a melody that resonates across generations and communities. It serves as a reminder of the power of music in promoting harmony and understanding.

The jingle competition also saw Alcesa Grenville Wong coming in second place and Roger Hinds (also known as Young Bill Rogers) in third place. The event highlighted how music can inspire hope and bridge cultural gaps in Guyana’s diverse society.

In his acceptance speech, Griffith shared his gratitude and expressed the importance of unity. “Music is a universal language, and I’m honoured to contribute to promoting peace and respect in our beautiful nation.”

The ERC applauded all participants for their exceptional creativity and dedication to promoting harmony. As Guyana moves forward, Griffith’s winning jingle will serve as a reminder that, indeed, “Together we stand, forever strong.”
