According to several videos shared on social media from the scene, there was chaos with screams and vehicles fleeing as shots were fired. One video posted by Keon Carl Williams features a young man recounting his experience: “them man them going boom boom boom wild wild wild, them man fire some wild shots.” The police have confirmed to the Mayor of Linden, Sharma Solomon, that individuals are hesitant to speak up.

Speaking with SN yesterday, Solomon urged Linden residents to enjoy the festive season responsibly, emphasizing that violence has no place in the community.

“As we enter a festive period, I urge all citizens to enjoy entertainment and social gatherings responsibly. Violence has no place in our community, and we must all work together to foster an environment of peace and mutual respect.

“I also want to reassure the public that the Mayor’s Office remains in close communication with the Police Division. The safety and security of our residents are our top priorities, and I have been assured by Commander Nurse and his team that every effort is being made to maintain public order and ensure justice is served. Let us continue to work together to build a safer and more cohesive community,” said  Solomon.

Lennox Gasper, the Town Clerk of Linden, also addressed the incident, describing it as an isolated event involving local youngsters who allowed their tempers to escalate over a trivial matter. He reassured the public that the situation was under control and that the individuals responsible have been arrested. “The peace and security of the residents are assured. The full force of the law will be meted out,” Gasper added.

He also urged those attending social gatherings to be mindful of their actions, highlighting that every decision made can impact the wider community, including family members. “The Commander has assured that peace and security will be maintained, and they are on top of things,” Gasper said.
