Dear Editor,
As a frequent traveler who has visited over 30 countries, I have always complied with entry regulations and never faced detention, deportation, or imprisonment—until recently. I am a citizen of Guyana, and during my second visit to Suriname using my Guyanese passport, I was denied entry, detained for 24 hours, and deported. This experience was both shocking and humiliating.
Following the incident, I have taken numerous steps to seek clarity and resolution: 1. I wrote multiple emails to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Guyana. 2. I provided a formal statement at the Ministry’s Protocol Office. 3. I lodged a complaint with the Suriname Embassy in Guyana.
Unfortunately, none of these efforts have yielded any response or explanation. This lack of communication and support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is deeply disappointing.
If such an incident can happen to me without recourse, it raises concerns for all Guyanese citizens traveling abroad. I urge the Ministry to take action and ensure that such situations are addressed with the seriousness they deserve.
Sincerely,
Anthony Pantlitz
