At approximately 00:44 hrs this morning, acting on information received, police ranks proceeded to Craig (Grand Scheme), East Bank Demerara, where they intercepted a white Toyota 212 motor car bearing registration number PRR 2536, carrying six bulky parcels of marijuana which, when weighed, amounted to 62 kilogrammes (136.687 lbs).
A release from the police said that Neil Patterson, 26, of Lot 113 Kwakwani Park, Berbice River, was driving the vehicle at the time.
During a search of the vehicle, Police found six bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic, containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be narcotics, which were found in the baggage compartment and back seat of the car.
Patterson, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was informed of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. He was then escorted to Regional Police 4’B’ Headquarters (Narcotics Department), along with the suspected narcotics.
The narcotics were weighed in Patterson’s presence and found to be 62 kilograms (136.687 pounds).
