Altaf Ali, a 13-year-old leg spinner from Bush Lot Cricket Club in West Coast Berbice, is the latest recipient of the ‘Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana’ project.
The initiative, led by Anil Beharry and Kishan Das from the USA, provided Ali with a pair of cricket shoes after his coach, Rajbance Hemraj, sought assistance.
The project aims to support youth development in cricket and keep young people engaged in positive activities. Since its inception, over $460,000 in cricket gear and cash donations have been distributed to young players across Guyana. Beneficiaries include 90 players from all three counties, cricket clubs, and schools. Items distributed include bats, pads, gloves, shoes, helmets, and cricket balls.
Cricket gear is distributed free of charge to talented and disciplined young players, with assistance from club leaders and community coaches.
