A family trip to Lake Eleven in Huis’t Dieren, Region Two ended in tragedy when a 36-year-old man drowned while swimming.
The victim has been identified as Gowkarran Inderjeet, also known as ‘Karran’ or ‘Bud,’ of Lot 13 Number Three Village, West Coast Berbice.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 4:30 pm.
Indarjeet had travelled to the Essequibo Coast with his wife, Davie Inderjeet, and their son, Ayan Inderjeet, to spend time with family. During the visit, he decided to visit the popular Lake Eleven.
After spending time with relatives, Inderjeet and his six-year-old son went into the lake for a swim.
According to a family member, while swimming, Inderjeet accidentally stepped into a deep hole. Witnesses nearby saw both father and son struggling in the water and quickly intervened. They managed to save the child, but sadly, Inderjeet sank beneath the surface and did not reappear.
A search was immediately launched, and after an extensive effort, his lifeless body was recovered from the lake.
“He was missing [and] we were so worried. We glad that we found him but he was a good guy he love his family,” a relative related.
