In accordance with Part III, Section 16 of the Defence Act 15:01 of 1977, the Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan on January 1st announced the promotion of 525 Other Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Guyana National Reserve.
A release from the GDF said that among the promoted ranks, three Warrant Officers Class Two were elevated to Acting Warrant Officer Class One, while one Warrant Officer Class Two was made substantive. Additionally, two substantive Staff Sergeants were promoted to Substantive Warrant Officer Class Two, and three substantive Staff Sergeants were promoted to Acting Warrant Officer Class Two.
Ten Acting Staff Sergeants were made substantive, while eight substantive Sergeants were promoted to Acting Staff Sergeant, and forty-two Sergeants were made substantive. Fifty-seven Corporals entered the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Corps through their promotion to Acting Sergeant, while sixty-two Corporals were made substantive. Furthermore, one hundred and sixteen Lance Corporals were promoted to Acting Corporal, and seventy-five Acting Lance Corporals were made substantive. Forty-nine Privates were promoted to the rank of Acting Lance Corporal.
The GDF Coast Guard recorded thirty-two promotions. These include one Chief Petty Officer who was made substantive, two Senior Petty Officers who were promoted to Acting Chief Petty Officer, and one Senior Petty Officer who was made substantive. A further twenty-eight Other Ratings were promoted or made substantive in their respective ranks.
The Guyana National Reserve saw sixty-five of its ranks promoted.
