Dear Editor,
I become very irritable when I read certain statements. Like I have said before, I like keeping abreast with current affairs, I like to be acquainted with what is transpiring in my country. As I was traveling to work this morning, I proceeded to read the newspaper online and what I saw made me upset. Editor, what Aubrey Norton continues to say is one of the many reasons why Guyana is in the state she is in. Mind you, I am not blaming Norton for Guyana’s stalemate situation, however, if he continues to play “tit for tat” politics, he and the rest of the opposition will continue to occupy the seat of complacency. Editor, some people may argue, what can Norton do and they are right, that’s a valid question. Norton has to get up, show up and do all that is necessary to be taken seriously by Bharrat Jagdeo and his gang. He has to wear the cap of a true leader. He must orchestrate measures to reform and rebuild the image of his party. Norton must become actively involved in the day to day activities of our citizens. Norton must be seen more. Norton must lobby to bring about necessary political changes and if that calls for engaging the international bodies for help, then he must.
Mind you, Norton alone cannot accomplish this, however, he needs serious leaders to join this movement and he can if he starts now. Editor, yes we have oil but yet our nation is poor. Yes, we have been promoted as a advancing economy, but yet we are still begging alms from the international community… yes, we have great ideas and plans for our country but yet we seem to be getting nowhere. Editor, I am convinced that if we had a stronger opposition Guyana would have been making some in roads economically, socially and competitively. Norton thinks he is trying but he has not been able to break one stone to date. Editor, I must give it to him – tough – he is a bright fella but we need to see proactivism, willingness and determination from him. We all want to see Guyana enjoying her best days yet and no one wants to live in the cold forever. Norton, I saw you once in person. I know you may be wondering who is this person but don’t sweat it, Chief, I want to see the best leader in you and I believe you have so much in the tank. We need to see it in tough actions. All the best, Norton, and don’t be afraid. Stop shooting words and start enacting those words, my brother. I want to wish all Guyanese a prosperous 2025, let us love one another and look out for each other. One love!
Sincerely
Yannason Duncan
