Kashif & Shanghai National Futsal
Traditional giants Bent Street A and Sparta Boss will contest the final of the Kashif and Shanghai National Futsal Championship today following hard-fought semifinal wins on Wednesday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue.
Bent Street A produced a gritty performance to best Road Warriors, a team comprising several Portuguese and Spanish-speaking natives, by an 8-6 score. Bent Street A once again showed why they are the premier team in the format with a calculated performance led by the unpredictable Jermaine Beckles.
A scorer of a second-half brace in the 36th and 40th minutes, Beckles was a constant thorn in the side of the opponent, thrilling the large gathering with sublime footwork against a tired unit that opted in a rather strange move to play almost the entire match with the same five starters.
The experienced Daniel Wilson bagged a double in the sixth and 20th minutes, while recent recruit made his presence felt with a brace in the 29th and 39th minutes. Adding goals in the 22nd and 28th minutes were Colin Nelson and Adrian Aaron.
On the other side, the Road Warriors, who were responsible for the exit of Gold is Money in the previous round, were led by a Matheus DeSouza hat-trick in the 10th, 32nd, and 36th minutes. Adding goals in the third, 32nd, and 37th minutes, respectively, were Dionathas Perreira, Hildimir Filho, and Wendrecky DeSouza.
In similar fashion, Sparta Boss snapped a three-game losing streak against Back Circle to prevail 3-2 in the earlier semifinal encounter, which produced two red cards for the latter. The versatile Jermin Junior orchestrated the come-from-behind win with a hat-trick in the ninth, 23rd, and 38th minutes.
For Back Circle A, Darren Benjamin and Bevney Marks found the back of the net in the 15th and 18th minutes, respectively.
The losing semifinalists will contest the third place playoff.
Meanwhile, Lady Kanaimas and Lady Royals will contest the final of the women’s division following commanding wins in their semifinal home and away series.
Lady Kanaimas caged the Lionesses 7-0 to win the two-match series 18-0 on aggregate. Glendy Lewis tallied a helmet trick in the third, fourth, 14th, and 17th, while Sandra Johnson bagged a double in the 15th and 16th minutes. Adding a goal in the ninth minute was Glengie Lewis.
Similarly, the Lady Jaguars dismantled the Tucville Terrorists 5-0 to prevail 12-0 on aggregate. The quintet of Tiandi Smith, Amanda McKenzie, Horacia Adams, Shontel Greene, and Ashanti Aaron scored in the second, fifth, 14th, 19th, and 24th minutes, respectively.
The losing semifinalists will match skills in the third place playoff. The winner of the event, which continues today, will pocket $2,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth place finishers will walk away with $1,000,000, $500,000, and $200,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade.
Meanwhile, the winner of the female segment, which is slated to commence at the quarterfinal section, will receive $200,000, with the second, third, and fourth place sides receiving $100,000, $60,000, and $40,000, respectively.
