Botofago was crowned the Upper Demerara Football Association Futsal Champion, dethroning incumbent Milerock by an 11-7 score-line in the final on Wednesday evening at the Retrieve Hard-court in Linden.
Botofago seemed to have settled the outcome at the conclusion of the first half in front of a mammoth crowd after storming to a 4-1 advantage. However, Botofago’s complacency in the second stanza, given their initial advantage, led to Milerock recording five goals in the second half as the contest required extra time to decide the outcome following a 6-6 score.
In the end, Botofago tallied five goals in the extra time period, a majority of which occurred in the second stanza of the overtime interval, to secure the eventual win.
Amoniki Buntin led the victor with a hat-trick while the quartet of Donovan Francis, Jamal Haynes, Shamar Caesar, and Jamal Bentick recorded respective braces. On the other side, Colwyn Drakes amassed a helmet trick, while Zadien Raul registered a double alongside a Rawle Gittens conversion.
Due to the outcome, Botofago pocketed $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the loser received $500,000 and the corresponding accolade.
On the individual side, Haynes of Botofago was adjudicated the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), while teammate Omaly Costello walked away with the Best Goalkeeper accolade. Drakes of Milerock captured the Golden Boot award with 11 conversions. Haynes and Drakes walked away with $50,000, while Costello received $30,000.
In the earlier third place playoff, Capital FC dismantled Winners Connection 16-8. Dequan Wilson and Omarion Ramsammy recorded respective helmet tricks while Emmanuel Atkins, Monty Gittens, and Devonte Tappin netted two goals, respectively.
Adding one goal apiece were Isaiah Adams and George Stephens.
On the other side, Akeem Caesar amassed a hat-trick while Cedric Hunte tallied a double. Scoring one goal, respectively, were Ronic Velloza, Anthony Layne, and Jamal Reynolds.
With the result, Capital FC walked away with $200,000 and the third-place accolade, with Winners Connection receiving $100,000 and the respective trophy.
