Pitamber, Couchman, Narine triumph in Rapid & Blitz Open Chess

The trio of Candidate Master Sachin Pitamber, Kyle Couchman, and Ricardo Narine emerged as respective divisional winners in the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) Year-end Rapid and Blitz Championships.

This was disclosed by a press release from the GCF.

Staged at the David Rose Special School on Thomas Lands, Pitamber won the Rapid Championship following an unbeaten campaign as he ended with a score of 8.5 points in the nine-round Swiss format event.

Couchman ended in second place with eight points while Sandiford rounded out the top three with 6.5 points.

In the Blitz Championship, Couchman triumphed with a score of eight points, with Sandiford and Pitamber ending in second and third with scores of eight and six, respectively.

Meanwhile, Narine clinched the U-20 category following a score of eight points, while Nicholas Zhang and Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Aditi Joshi ended in second and third place, respectively, on 6.5 points.

“The Best Female prizes for the Rapid competition went to WCM Jessica Callender and Tharisha Montes De Oca in the Open and U20 categories, respectively, while Joshi copped the Best Female prize in the Blitz competition”, the release stated.

Approximately 30 players competed in the event, which was supervised by FIDE Master Anthony Drayton.
