Man charged with attempted murder at supermarket

Yesterday at the George-town Magistrate’s Court, 34-year-old David Pierre appeared before Magis-trate Faith McGusty charged with attempting to commit murder.

Magistrate McGusty read the charge to Pierre. It is alleged that on the 30th of December 2024 while in the company of another, Pierre wounded Anand Ramkissoon with intent to commit murder.

The prosecution objected to bail due to a number of aggravating factors such as the nature and seriousness of the offence. Additionally, it stated that the victim is currently hospitalized in critical condition fighting for his life. It went on to state that video footage exists of the accused committing the offence as well as the accused admitting to chopping the victim in a video interview.

The accused told the court  that there is video evidence from civilians which depicts the full story. Pierre went on to say that the incident occurred at a Chinese supermarket where someone was seen shoplifting.

Bail was refused, Magistrate McGusty ordered that the police properly review the video. The matter was adjourned until the 24th of January 2025.
