Twenty-four-year-old Nalini Kamal appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of fraudulent conversion.

The charge states that between October 1, 2024, and December 29, 2024, Kamal,  who was entrusted by Truman David with 5 million Brazilian dollars (real), allegedly converted the funds to her personal use.

Kamal pleaded not guilty to the charge. Her attorney, Pamela DeSantos, informed the court that Kamal, who operates a business renting shelf space, had offered to review the receipt books with the victim but had not yet done so. DeSantos argued that the case does not constitute fraudulent conversion, emphasizing that Kamal has made numerous attempts to rectify the situation and share documentation with the victim.

The prosecution did not oppose bail, and the magistrate expressed hope that both parties could reach a resolution by the next court date. The matter has been adjourned to January 17, 2025, for further reports and statements.
