Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 2.15 pm today on the Houston public road, in the vicinity of Rahaman’s Park, involving motorcycle #CH 8290 owned and driven by Brian Paul McKenzie, a 55-year-old resident from Corriverton, Berbice.
The police said that a preliminary investigation revealed that (based on a video view), the motorcycle was proceeding west on the southern carriageway of Houston public road at a fast rate. At the time the motorcyclist was not wearing a safety helmet. As the motorcyclist approached Rahaman’s Turn, he proceeded to negotiate a left turn with the same speed and in the process of doing so, lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the metal guard rail in the centre of the road separating the eastern and western carriageways.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was flung into a lamp-post and landed on the road surface. The Ambulance service was summoned and the Emergency Medical Technicians later arrived on the scene where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Kellman.
The body of the motorcyclist is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination. Further investigations are ongoing.
