Candy Boss Football Championship

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) defeated Cougars by a 3-1 score to clinch third place last evening in the Candy Boss 8-a-side Football Championship at the All Saints ground in New Amsterdam.

Witnessed by a sizable crowd, Dorwin George opened the scoring for the lawmen in the second minute. However, William Somerset equalised for the Cougars as he etched his name on the score-sheet in the 20th minute.

The goal emanated after Somerset dribbled the two opposing centre-halves before blasting past the advancing goalkeeper. The score remained unaltered entering the halftime interval.

However, upon the resumption, the lawmen retook the lead, as Devon Padmore made his presence felt in the 32nd minute. The result was then sealed in the 40th minute as Adrian Aaron found the back of the net with a left-footed strike.

Due to the outcome, the victorious police unit pocketed $200,000 and the respective trophy while the loser walked away with $100,000 and the corresponding accolade. Up to press time, the final between Monedderlust and Cougars U-20 was underway.
