Grade Six second mock exam for February 26 and 27

Priya Manickchand

Minister of Education Priya Manickchand has advised Grade Six students and teachers that there will be a second mock exam on February 26 and 27 to prepare for the National Grade Six Assessment 2025.

As school reopens for the Easter term, Manickchand in a Facebook video, said that NGSA 2025 will be written on April 16 and 17.  The minister noted that mock exams aim to diagnose weak and strong areas in students’ academic performances. Based on the mock exam results from last December, English and Social Studies dominated and continued to perform well while Mathematics and Science needed improvements.

Manickchand outlined the topics that need more emphasis in Science, which include energy, forces, heat, light, circuits, earth and space, phases of the moon, movement of the earth, human body (systems, parts, functions), mixtures, separation techniques, and biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials. In relation to Social Studies, improvement is needed in areas such as landmarks, monuments, transportation, communication, ethnic groups in Guyana, natural regions, and map reading. In English, improvement should be seen in topics such as subject and verb agreement, collective nouns, sentence sequencing, comprehension, composition, letter writing, grammar, and vocabulary. For Mathematics, more emphasis should be placed on number concepts, fractions, measurement, and geometry.
