Dear Editor,
The oxygen of publicity is the best disinfectant in any thriving democracy. There will be elections in late 2025 in Guyana. The questions are who are the runners and riders? Shrouded in too much mystery for me. The incumbent PPP (The C is a carapace) will have Ali for President, Phillips for PM, Jagdeo for VP and oil supremo (where the real power resides). The latter will keep GHK Lall in copy for years. Attack Jagdeo, rinse repeat. Easy but lazy journalism.
Who will the opposition candidates be? Therein lies the mystery. The PNC’s (R is another carapace) will be Aubrey Norton or will it? Where does Nigel Hughes and the (no longer shining) AFC fit into that plan? A joint ticket? Who will head it? Who will represent the ‘joinder’ (for which read ‘no hope’) parties? Are high level Cummingsburg 3.0 discussions going on? Where and when? Between whom? Should the Guyanese electorate not be told? Transparency and oxygen are all. Let’s have plenty more.
Sincerely,
John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
