Defending champions of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Four-Day Championship, the Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) are set to begin preparations to retain the prestigious title.
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has announced two vital practice matches to fine-tune the team’s preparation for the upcoming season. These games, scheduled for January 9 and 15, are expected to play a key role in the selection of a formidable squad.
The GCB expressed excitement about unveiling the Harpy Eagles’ preparation plans in a press release to the media last evening, emphasizing the importance of the two matches in assessing players and building team cohesion. According to the board, these games will not only allow the players to enhance their skills in a competitive environment but also provide a platform for individuals to impress selectors and stake their claim for a spot in the final squad.
Two teams will take to the field during the practice matches, Savory’s XI, led by Kemol Savory, and Tagenarine’s XI, captained by Tagenarine Chanderpaul.
Savory’s XI: Kemol Savory (captain & wicketkeeper), Matthew Nandu, Raymond Perez, Zeynul Ramsammy, Akshaya Persaud, Richie Looknauth, Junior Sinclair, Ashmead Nedd, Nityanand Mathura, Thaddeus Lovell, Isai Thorne, Chris Harry, Demetri Cameron, and Joshua Persaud.
Tagenarine’s XI: Tagenarine Chanderpaul (captain), Sachin Singh, Adrian Sukwah (wicketkeeper), Kandhiya Ramkaran, Ushardeva Balgobin, Kevlon Anderson, Jonathan Van Lange, Veerasammy Permaul, Riyad Latiff, Joshua Jones, Nial Smith, Syrus Tyndall, Jonathan Rampersaud, and Rampersaud Ramnauth.
Additionally, the GCB noted that six “promising players” have been invited to participate, which reflects their dedication to fostering new talent. Those players are Antony Adams, Ashraf Ali Budhoo, Yeudestir Persaud, Golcharran Chulai, Romeo Deonarine, and Bruce Vincent.
Following the two practice matches, the Guyana Harpy Eagles will begin their campaign to defend the Four-Day Championship title. Their opening game is scheduled against Barbados Pride at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, starting Wednesday, January 29.
