– Hurry Ate, Belle West also win
Action in the Pouderoyen U-17 Football Competition continued yesterday with four matches at the West Demerara Secondary School Ground, West Coast Demerara. Stealing the spotlight among the four matches, Uitvlugt emerged triumphant in a 5-4 thriller over their Beavers FC counterparts.
In a match that took a while to get going in terms of goalscoring, the momentum shifted from side to side and it was only through the perseverance of Morkel Dainty who netted a hat trick, that Uitvlugt gained the ascendancy.
In fact, Beavers took the lead in the 30th minute through a Seymour Munroe strike before Dainty (45’) equalized for Uitvlugt on the stroke of halftime.
With things level at 1-1 heading into the second half, Roncey Gittens handed Uitvlugt a brief 2-1 lead with his 53rd minute goal. However, things were tied up once again as Trey Archibald beat the Uitvlugt custodian in the 55th minute to leave the scoreline at 2-2.
Dainty then took matters into his hands restoring Uitvlugt’s lead with his second goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the 57th minute.
Gittens, who had scored Uitvlugt’s second goal, was culpable of conceding an own goal to make things interesting at 3-3 in the 60th minute.
Darius Stephen put the Beavers into a 4-3 lead in the 70th minute with a well taken goal, but his side’s lead was short-lived as Dainty completed his hat trick immediately after to equalize at 4-4.
Dexter Lawrence made a decisive incision, netting the winner in the 78th minute to hand Uitvlugt the win.
In other matches, Hurry-Ate beat Pouderoyen 4-3 while Jetty Gunners lost 1-6 to Belle West. Additionally, Eagles drew 2-2 with Wales.
The competition which began last month, continues next weekend and is expected to run for the next few weeks.
