Young to succeed Rowley as Trinidad PM

(Trinidad Express) Prime Minister in waiting Stuart Young is expected to take up official duties by the end of February.

Prime Minister Dr Rowley has announced that Young, the Energy Minister, will replace him as Prime Minister.

He said there were two contenders for the position- Young and Planning Minister Penelope Beckles.

Young, he said, received the majority support from PNM Members of Parliament.

Rowley said he intends to transition the Prime Ministerial role to Young after he attends a Caricom meeting in Barbados carded for February 17, 2025.

For the past two days the People’s National Movement (PNM) has been meeting in retreat sessions at a private villa at Tobago Plantations.

Rowley, dressed in a red black and grey sweater, a grey pants and leather slippers spoke to the media for just over 30 minutes where he expressed confidence in Young to take up the job.

Young took to Facebook to express gratitude for his historic appointment to come.

He posted:

I would like to sincerely thank my parliamentary colleagues for the confidence they have expressed in me.

I also thank Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley, M.P., Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for his continued and exemplary leadership in guiding us through a historic process.

I am proud to be a member of the People’s National Movement (PNM) and look forward to working tirelessly not only with all of our members but also with ALL citizens of Trinidad and Tobago as we continue working towards the building of our country and ensuring its future success.
