Royals & Kings latest winners in One Guyana Basketball league

The One Guyana Premier Basketball League continued on Sunday night in Linden at the Retrieve Hard Court with two matches, and while fans only got to witness one, it was a thriller as the Victory Valley Royals ran out 64-56 winners over the Jets in a close encounter.

Earlier in the night, the Caimans were a no-show and gifted the Kings a walkover win.

Despite that putting a damper on the night, in the next match, the Royals managed to stamp their authority by the end of the first quarter, leading 22-11. Despite the Kings making a stand in the second quarter, the Royals had a good enough start to stay leading heading into half time, with a 30-25 lead.

Led by Orion Glasgow and Yannick Tappin, the Victory Valley outfit built on their slim advantage to close out the second half despite resistance from the Kings in the form of Quincy Easton and Akinni Wilson.

As the game ended 64- 56, Glasgow was the leading figure for the victors, netting a game high 18 points while he had stout support from Tappin (16 points) and Vibert Benjamin who posted 12 points. Others among the points for the Royals was Rakin McDonald and Koby Tappin who had 8 points with Harold Adams chipping in with two points.

For the losers, Quincy Easton ensured that he went down fighting with 17 points as Wilson and Shauntese Campbell finished with 10 and 8 points respectively.

The league is expected to culminate in the next few months and action continues next weekend.
