A reality at the Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre

Dear Editor,

Imagine being in extreme pain, discomfort, and distress, seeking urgent care at the dentist, only to be told you cannot be seen. You ask why, and the response is that you are not allowed in because you are wearing short pants. The agony grows as you are instructed to go home and change, but by the time you return, the clinic is closed.

This is not a hypothetical scenario. It is a reality faced by many patients at the Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre. Such a rule is not only unreasonable but inhumane, particularly for those in dire need of relief from excruciating pain. I cannot help but wonder: what would Dr. Cheddi Jagan himself say about this rule? Would he approve of a policy that prioritizes dress codes over the urgent medical needs of patients?

Policies should be rooted in compassion and practicality, especially in healthcare settings. Denying care to individuals based on attire undermines the very essence of patient-centered care. It is time to revisit this policy and ensure that no one in need of dental care is turned away for such trivial reasons.

Sincerely,

Anthony Pantlitz
