A 22-year-old soup vendor who is before the court in a $3.4m robbery case secured bail on Wednesday as questions continue to swirl over video footage of the incident.
Peter Thompson was granted $250,000 bail when he reappeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on the armed robbery charge.
It is alleged that Thompson on Tuesday 12th of November 2024 at Lot 32 D’Urban Street Lodge, Georgetown, in the company of another and armed with a gun, robbed Adelle David of six gold rings valued $632,500, two gold chains valued $870,000, one ankle chain valued $150,000, one gold wrist band valued $2,990 and $1,990,000 cash, totalling $3,415,490.
When he first appeared in court on December 24th, Thompson’s defence attorney Darren Wade said that the accused had not been seen on the video footage of the robbery. The prosecution however objected to bail stating that the accused had a similar birthmark to one seen on one of the suspects in the video footage. Bail was denied and the matter was adjourned to January 8th.
Thompson appeared virtually on January 8th via Zoom and the video footage of the incident was produced before the court. After the video was shown, Thompson’s defence attorney stated that it didn’t appear as if the complainant was robbed. Renewing his bail request, he reiterated that his client has a perfectly clean record.
The prosecution then requested three weeks for further statements and photographs. Thompson was then placed on $250,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to the 5th of February 2025.
