The Guyana Industrial Hemp Regulatory Authority (GIHRA) last week advertised a vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as part of its ongoing efforts to regulate and expand the emerging hemp industry in the country.
Established under the Industrial Hemp Act of 2022, GIHRA is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to guide the development of the hemp sector. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the industry’s growth while ensuring strong governance and compliance with regulatory frameworks.
According to the ad, the CEO will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to GIHRA, overseeing the regulation and expansion of the hemp industry. Core duties will include: facilitating the growth and regulation of the hemp industry in Guyana and developing and improving internal controls, policies, and financial systems. The CEO will also be expected to ensure industry compliance with regulations, guide policy development, manage annual and periodic performance reports, build relationships with key stakeholders, maintain communication with major industry participants and identify operational challenges and craft solutions for sustainable growth.
The ad said that applicants should have a master’s degree in Business Adminis-tration, Economics, or a related field, and at least ten years of professional experience, including five years in senior management positions. Experience in regulatory or governmental organizations would be a plus, along with a proven ability in strategy development and corporate governance.
