The Ministry of Home Affairs processed and granted an unprecedented 13,713 work permits in 2024, reflecting a dramatic increase compared to previous years. This is according to Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn during his Ministry’s end-of-year press conference yesterday. The permits, which were issued between January and December, involve 25 companies across various sectors, including oil and gas, construction, and mining.
“This significant increase highlights the demand for skilled labour in light of the ongoing development across the country,” Benn stated. By comparison, only 4,795 work permits were issued in 2023, and 3,192 in 2022, marking the rapid growth in Guyana’s economy and workforce needs.
