The quest for a coveted spot in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League Season 7 intensifies as the Qualifying semi-finals unfold today at the National Training Centre, Providence and the Bartica Centre Ground. Four formidable teams in Mahaica Determinators, Pele FC, Potato Strikers and Lake Mainstay are set to compete for a place in the nation’s premier football league.

The Mahaica Determinators secured their semi-final berth with a commanding 4-1 victory over Paradise Invaders FC. Key contributions came from Travon Adams, who netted twice just before halftime, and late goals by Julius Hamilton and substitute Nicholas Daw, sealing their advancement.

Pele FC will be looking to strengthen their case for a return to
the top flight of club football when they face Mahaica Determinators.

Pele FC earned their spot by edging out Agricola Red Triangle with a narrow 1-0 win, courtesy of a 35th-minute goal from Akon DeSantos. Their solid defensive performance ensured the lead held, propelling them into the next round.

Potaro Strikers demonstrated resilience by overcoming Uitvlugt Warriors in a 2-1 encounter. After conceding an early goal, they rallied with second-half strikes from Kevin Reddy and Daniel Gardener to clinch the victory.

Lake Mainstay FC enters the semi-finals after receiving a bye in the initial round, adding an element of unpredictability to their upcoming match against Potaro Strikers.

The stakes are high, as the tournament winner will secure an automatic spot in the Elite League, filling the vacancy left by Buxton United, who finished at the bottom of the points table in the 2024 season. The final is scheduled for Saturday, (January 18). Additionally, the runner-up will have a second chance to qualify for the Elite League by facing Anns Grove United, the ninth-place finisher in the previous season, in a playoff set for next Wednesday (January 22).
