At approximately 12:07 pm yesterday, a utility pole at Mandela Avenue, Ruimveldt was pulled down and obstructed traffic and caused a power outage in the area.
Stabroek News spoke with a senior official from the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) who was on the scene.
According to the GPL official they received a phone call from a security officer in the area who notified them that a truck, GAH9905 was passing with an excavator on the top which came into contact with the wires of the utility pole. This caused the pole to fall. GPL personnel stated that they arrived 15 minutes after being notified of the incident.
Some persons were left without power for over two hours.
