Thirty-eight-year-old Orin Favorite appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty on Friday charged with armed robbery.

Favorite pled not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on January 4, at Queen Street, Tiger Bay, Georgetown, he robbed Amy Numerus of $10,000 cash at knife point.

The accused told the magistrate that he was willing to compensate the complainant while advocating that the charge before the court was a “small matter.”

The magistrate then asked Favorite if he had in fact taken the money, given his suggestion to pay back the complainant, to which he was unable to give a clear response.

The prosecutor objected to bail being granted citing the fact that the defendant had appeared in court on multiple occasions for offences of a similar nature and was even sentenced to five years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty of stealing a gold chain.

He added that this was a necessary step in ensuring offenders understand the repercussions for similar types of offences, while reiterating that this was a habitual practice of the defendant.

The magistrate concurred and bail was refused.
