GECOM’s recently announced inability to enable a biometric system stands in contrast to the concerns shared by local and international observers

Dear Editor, We must question why the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), through its Chair, Ret’d Justice Claudette Singh, announced at the 11th hour the agency’s claimed inability to enable a biometric system for the upcoming elections when it knew about the importance of this act more than five years ago.

The Liliendaal pump station on the East Coast Demerara is set to be commissioned within the next two weeks, following the project’s completion under the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agriculture Sector Development Unit (ASDU), funded by a World Bank loan at a final cost of $1.4 billion, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha has said.
