Man remanded over cannabis on Croal St

Forty-two-year-old Elroy Mentor appeared on Friday before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with possession of narcotics.

Mentor pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on January 15 at Croal Street, Stabroek, Georgetown, he was in possession of 71.6 grammes of cannabis.

Magistrate McGusty asked Mentor how he found himself in this situation and he responded that while on his way to work, he, along with another man, were searched by the police on Croal Street. He added that the police found the drugs on a desk nearby. Mentor stated that he was sent to the Ruimveldt Police Station and has not seen the other person who was searched alongside him since then. He also told the court that he resides at Lot 29 Middle Street, McDoom.
