Ferguson triumphs at inaugural GBTI Mastercard Golf Classic

The Lusignan Golf Club greens came alive on Sunday as the inaugural GBTI Mastercard Golf Classic Tournament delivered an encouraging start to the 2025 golfing season. Amid a competitive field, Orson Fergson emerged victorious, securing his place as the first champion of the year.  

Reflecting on his win, he shared, “I’ve been practising two to three times per week in the mornings over the past month. This win is the culmination of the hard work I’ve been putting in. It’s exciting to see it paying off. The course was wonderful, and it was a fantastic tournament. Thanks to GBTI for sponsoring.” 

The tournament featured strong performances from other players, with Arnold Deo securing second place with 38 points (handicap 19) and Rakesh Harry finishing third with 38 points (handicap 10). Ferguson led the field with an impressive 43 points (handicap 28), demonstrating remarkable consistency throughout the competition.  

Additional accolades were awarded for exceptional skills. Rakesh Harry claimed the Longest Drive award, while Joseph Szeplake earned the Nearest to the Pin (NTP) title.  

Pernell Cummings, Marketing Manager of GBTI, praised the players and expressed the institution’s pride in sponsoring the event.

President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Anasha Ally, extended her gratitude to all contributors to the event’s success. “Thank you, GBTI; it was a wonderful tournament. This success is due to the players who participated and those who supported the event. Special thanks to our club and ground staff for maintaining such a beautiful course,” she said.
