Man, woman charged with attacking each other in Campbellville

A man and a woman appeared yesterday  before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to face charges of assault and unlawful wounding.

Trisha Lovell, 41, was charged with assault causing bodily harm to which she pled not guilty

It is alleged that on January 12 at Campbellville Housing Scheme, George-town, she assaulted Edgar Deviera. Lovell was also charged with threatening behaviour which she allegedly displayed towards  Deviera.

She pleaded not guilty to this charge.

Meanwhile,  Deviera, 54, was charged with unlawful wounding to which he pled not guilty.

It is alleged that on January 12, at Campbellville Housing Scheme, George-town, he unlawfully wounded Lovell.

When asked by the magistrate if they wished to proceed with the matter against each other, Lovell adamantly stated that she wished to proceed. She alleged that Deviera came to her home and beat her up and that this wasn’t the first time this had happened. She went on to state that Deviera is the father of her child and lives five minutes away from her, adding that he threatened her and her brother in the presence of the police and as such she is confused as to why she is being charged.

Deviera interjected saying that Lovell was the one who initiated the scuffle when he went to pick up his daughter when she attacked him and punctured the tires of his car.

But according to Lovell, the altercation began when she instructed him not to touch her and in response he punched her to which she retaliated by puncturing his car tire. She went on to state that after this, Deviera began beating her and threw her into a nearby gutter, and that she has a medical report to show the injuries she sustained.

Magistrate McGusty subsequently placed them both on a bond to keep the peace and instructed them to have no contact with each other. Lovell was placed on bail of $15,000 for assault and $10,000 bail for threatening behaviour, while Deviera was placed on $25,000 bail for the unlawful wounding charge.

The matter was adjourned to February 12 for statements.
