Three confess to murder of Belle West woman – police

Three men have confessed to the robbery and murder of 60-year-old Parbhudai Boodhram, whose body was discovered at her Belle West, West Bank Demerara home last Friday, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum stated.

The suspects currently in custody are Kishan Narine, called ‘Sparka’, a 29-year-old fisherman of Suriname and Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo; Philbert Cush, called ‘Samuel,’ also a fisherman of Vergenoegen; and 40-year-old businessman Rohan Singh, called ‘Alpha’, of Belle West.

Blanhum informed the media that the men were questioned and admitted to their involvement in the crime. Police obtained caution statements and video-recorded their confessions. Additionally, Narine and Cush participated in a walk-through of the crime scene, which was also recorded.

A post-mortem examination, conducted by government pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh, determined that Boodhram died from manual strangulation.

According to the Crime Chief, investigators are in the process of compiling the case file for legal advice. Meanwhile, police are still searching for a fourth suspect, identified as Yormil Barrios. A wanted bulletin has been issued for Barrios after several unsuccessful attempts to locate him at his residence.

Reports indicate that Boodhram, known as ‘Renie’, lived with her husband, 63-year-old tailor Anthony Alphonso Boodhram, who operates a tailor shop in Georgetown. She would frequently visit the shop to assist her husband with his work and would return home in the evenings.

On the morning of the incident, Boodhram left home to assist her husband at his shop. After completing her tasks for the day, she departed for Belle West, making a stop at a local shop before heading home. The shop, police said, is owned by Rohan Singh, one of the suspects.

It was reported that Boodhram purchased groceries at the shop and was last seen being escorted home by Singh.

Investigators are continuing their probe into the circumstances surrounding her death
