-Faizal Khan named as Director
Slingerz Football Club has bolstered both its squad and leadership with the signing of defender Romaine Brackenridge and the appointment of British Chambers of Commerce Chairman Faizal Khan as a Director.
Yesterday in a statement to the media, the club announced the acquisition of Brackenridge, a central defender from Jamaica’s Harbour View FC. A seasoned player in the Jamaica Premier League, he has also represented Tivoli Gardens and Portmore United. Brackenridge recently debuted for Guyana’s senior national team, the Golden Jaguars, in a CONCACAF Nations League A match, contributing to a 5-3 win over Barbados. Eligible to represent Guyana through his grandparents, Slingerz FC noted that his presence adds experience and stability to Slingerz FC’s backline.
Brackenridge will reunite with fellow Jamaican Kemar Beckford and play alongside defender Terique Mohammed, a former Canadian U-20 international, and forward Kelsey Benjamin. Head Coach and Technical Director Jamaal Shabazz welcomed the signing, stating, “Romaine’s addition is a significant milestone. His international experience and defensive expertise will fortify our backline and inspire younger players.”
Meanwhile, Slingerz FC has also appointed Faizal Khan as a Director. Khan, a British-born Guyanese businessman and CEO of Guysons, has played a crucial role in UK-Guyana trade relations and football development. His experience as an international scout and agent with the Malta Football Federation and Guyana Football Federation helped integrate top diaspora talent, including Matthew Briggs, Neil Danns, and Isaiah Jones, into the national programme.
Club President Javed Ali welcomed Khan’s appointment, emphasizing his strategic vision and expertise. “His experience in both business and football will be invaluable as we build a professional club and brand,” Ali said.
