Police have arrested a man who allegedly attacked and robbed businesswoman Shamane Moore and then drove off with her car.
Moore, a 42-year-old businesswoman from South Sophia, Georgetown was relieved of $450,000.
The police said in a statement yesterday that the incident occurred on February 2, 2025, at approximately 2 pm at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, and was allegedly committed by Winston Selmon.
Enquiries revealed that Moore was supervising the construction of a foundation on a plot of land in Avalon Compound. The contractor requested that Moore purchase nails. Moore left her workplace in her motor car to purchase the nails from a nearby supermarket. Upon arrival at the Red East Supermarket, located along the Friendship public road, she parked her vehicle and went inside. After purchasing the nails, she returned to her vehicle.
While driving onto the main road, she noticed the suspect walking in front of her vehicle, and then refusing to move. The businesswoman exited the car and insisted that the suspect move aside. At that moment, the suspect ran towards the driver’s side of the vehicle, entered the car, and started to drive off. The victim quickly opened the front passenger door and jumped inside. She repeatedly insisted that he stop the car.
The suspect drove into Harry Avenue, Friendship, parked the vehicle, and assaulted the victim, inflicting several cuffs and kicks to her body. He then exited the vehicle, took the car keys and handbag and ran into a nearby yard.
The victim sought help from residents in the area. She then noticed the suspect holding her brown shoulder bag, which contained the aforementioned cash. When she confronted the suspect and demanded the return of the bag, he refused and continued to assault her, cuffing and kicking her in the head and body, the police said.
Fearing for her life, the victim raised an alarm, retrieved her car keys, returned to her vehicle, and drove away, leaving the suspect behind.
Police ranks from the Grove Police Station searched for the suspect. He was seen and apprehended, and a search of his person revealed $18,000 in his right front pants pocket, along with Moore’s brown bag. He was subsequently taken into custody.
A statement was taken from Moore and the incident was reported to the Police on February 2.
