A man is on trial before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the High Court for the death of Cedric Jones, who was killed during a dispute over damaged cassava plants.
Prosecutors Joy Williams and Rbina Christmas allege that on April 29, 2022, the accused, Ellison Johnson, was drinking with Jones under a tree when an argument broke out. Johnson reportedly accused Jones’ animals of destroying his cassava plants. During the altercation, Jones allegedly charged at Johnson, who then pushed him to the ground and kicked him in the head.
Jones died from a fractured spine caused by blunt force trauma to the face and neck, compounded by head injuries.
On Tuesday, two witnesses testified via Zoom. One witness stated that Johnson came to his home on the day of the incident and admitted to killing Jones, though the witness did not see the attack. Another witness, Jessy Wilson, told the court that he was in the area when he saw Johnson kick Jones in the head while he was lying motionless on the ground.
The trial continues.
