The highly anticipated Mashramani Street Football Championships continue tonight with the electrifying Super-16 stage at the Mocha Community Centre Tarmac, kicking off at 7:30 pm. The annual tournament, a staple of the local football calendar for the past seven years, received a major boost as MVP Sports officially handed over its sponsorship for the 2025 edition.
The night’s action begins with seasoned campaigners Goal is Money taking on tournament newcomers Bragging Rights, who enter as underdogs with everything to prove. In the second fixture, Showstoppers, hailing from Pouderoyen, West Demerara, go up against the formidable street football force, Albouystown.
North East will then battle the Timehri-based Footsteppers, followed by defending champions Stabroek Ballers facing off against the East Coast powerhouse, Team Cruel, in what is expected to be a high-intensity clash.
Former champions Bent Street return to the competition with a matchup against West Side Ballers, while in-form Festival City takes on Ztekk in a battle of skill and strategy.
The penultimate game of the night sees Back Circle B, joint winners of the Georgetown vs The Rest tournament, locking horns with Broad Street. In the final encounter, their co-title holders, Taliban, will go head-to-head with Laing Avenue Ballers, closing out the Super-16 stage in what promises to be a thrilling finale.
With tonight’s matchups determining the top eight teams, the stakes are high as only the best will advance to Saturday’s Super Eight (Quarterfinals) at the National Park Tarmac.
The competition carries a lucrative prize pool, with the winners set to claim a grand prize of $500,000. The second, third, and fourth-placed teams will receive $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000, respectively. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams, while the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be rewarded with $50,000 and a trophy for their outstanding performance.
Longtime sponsor MVP Sports reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots football, with Store Supervisor Selvin Apple making the official presentation yesterday. Apple emphasized the importance of supporting local sporting events that provide a platform for emerging talent.
The championship will culminate with the highly anticipated semi-finals and finals on February 15 at the National Park, where one team will claim the coveted title and street football glory.
