A man was yesterday fined $20,000 and placed on $30,000 bail when he appeared at the George-town Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore to answer charges of disorderly behaviour, use of abusive language and use of threatening language.

Seaton Daphness pleaded not guilty to all the charges, but was found guilty of and fined for disorderly behaviour.

The charges allege that on 28th December 2024 at Princes Street and Mandela Avenue, Daphness used abusive language towards Kennard Blackman, Shaquille Welcome and Kester Bethune. He was also charged with multiple counts of threatening language which he allegedly used towards the same trio on the same date and at the same place.

The prosecution stated that on the day in question, police officers were conducting a search in the area when Daphness and the others got into an argument.

Daphness told Magistrate Azore that he was 30 years old, employed as a newspaper printer and had previously spent time in jail for damage to property.

The matter was adjourned to 17th February.
