A 12-year-old Tucville Secondary School student has been missing for three weeks and her mother is desperately seeking assistance to find her child.
Missing is Shanacia Edwards of Lot 1777 Princes Street.
In an interview with Stabroek News the child’s mother, Shennel Edwards, revealed that her daughter has not been seen since she was dropped off at school on January 20.
Edwards stated that she had sent Shanacia to school in a taxi, although, “usually, me or her father does take her but on that day that wasn’t possible”. The distressed mother said that vendors near the school confirmed that Shanacia arrived at school on that day. However, when her father went to pick her up at 3:30 pm she was nowhere to be seen.

Her father was told by other students that he should check at the back of the school where students were practicing for Mashramani. After not finding her there, he was told by other students that he should check Eve Leary ground as there was a sports event she might’ve gone to. Her father went to Eve Leary but saw no sign of her, Edwards related.
She added that she made a missing person’s report at the Alberttown Police Station. Having heard from someone that they saw her daughter at a house at Tucville Turning Point road, she went there with the police, to no avail.
The mother has put up missing posters and said that she can’t sleep at all as she is deeply affected by her daughter’s disappearance. “I can’t sleep at night and when my other kids are sleeping I’m always watching them,” she said.
She stated that she reached out to former APNU minister Simona Broomes and started a search. The mother said she did everything she could and walked wherever her legs could take her in an attempt to locate her daughter. “Financially I’ve done all I can. I’ve been all over and the police saying the same thing three weeks now. I’m sure if it was something to do with someone possessing narcotics they would’ve made extra effort to locate them,” she lamented.
The woman said that she’s very worried for her child and her safety.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Shanacia Edwards or anyone who may have seen her is urged to contact 617-6362, 660-9445 or the nearest police station.
