Guyana secures 3-0 win over St. Maarten in Concacaf U17 Qualifiers

Guyana’s U17 national football team delivered a commendable performance in their second Concacaf U17 Qualifier match, securing a 3-0 victory over St. Maarten at the National Stadium in Costa Rica last night.

The crucial win significantly boosts Guyana’s chances of advancing to the next round of the competition after they got their campaign underway with a 1-1 draw against Trinidad and Tobago last week.

The match began with high intensity, and Guyana found an early breakthrough in the 18th minute when Shaquan David blasted home the opening goal from distance. Despite several attacking moves from both sides, the score remained 1-0 at halftime, with Guyana holding the advantage.

Early in the second half, Guyana doubled their lead in the 56th minute thanks to Quaency Fraser, who finished an impressive solo effort to put Guyana in a comfortable position. The dominance continued, and in the 73rd minute, Jaden Harris sealed the victory with a third goal, ensuring an emphatic win for the Guyanese squad.

With this result, Guyana strengthens its campaign in the Concacaf U17 Qualifiers, keeping their hopes alive for progression to the next stage.

They are in Group B alongside Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, and the British Virgin Islands. The Junior Jags will face a stiff challenge when they come up against host nation Costa Rica on Thursday, before wrapping up the group stage against the British Virgin Islands on Sunday (February 16). With a place in the U17 World Cup on the line, Guyana will be aiming to make their mark in the upcoming fixtures.
