Authorities at East Ruimveldt Secondary School have confirmed that they are investigating two fights that broke out in and around the compound on Tuesday afternoon. Sources close to the school and neighbours confirmed that the altercations took place after 3 pm, with one fight involving two girls and the other involving a boy and a girl.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the disputes escalated quickly, leading to parental involvement.
However, teachers who spoke with Stabroek News under the condition of anonymity, saying, “remember teachers not supposed to speak to the press”, expressed frustration over what they described as a “recurring issue”. According to them, fights at the school are a regular occurrence, particularly on Fridays, and the usual response has been suspensions rather than long-term resolutions.
