Six GDF ranks shot at Cuyuni

Six members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were shot this afternoon, when an army boat came under attack in the Cuyuni River, Region 7, by whom the police described as individuals believed to be associated with sindicatos, an armed Venezuelan gang.

Exxon submits EIA, EIS for Hammerhead well

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for ExxonMobil’s proposed seventh oil extraction project – Hammerhead – has been submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), according to a public notice in yesterday’s Sunday Stabroek which stated that the EIA and the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) have been tendered.

ERC calls for respect and religious tolerance

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) of Guyana has expressed its concern at the increasing level of religious intolerance expressed on social media regarding the recently inaugurated Shiva Murti on the Essequibo Coast and has issued cautionary warnings to several individuals as well as called for respect and religious tolerance by all.

Corruption perception and reality

Not unsurprisingly, the Minister of Parliamen-tary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira has mounted a defence of her government’s record against corruption in light of this year’s Trans-parency International (TI) report which again puts the country in an unflattering light.
