Forty improvised weapons found during search of Mazaruni prison – police

Members of the Joint Services conducted a search at the Mazaruni Prison on Saturday from 06:00 to 09:15 hrs and found forty improvised weapons, according to the police.

The operation — conducted in the Sibley Hall section of the Mazaruni Prison — involved 15 ranks from the Bartica Police Station, led by A.S.P. Nedd and A.S.P. Chaitram, 15 Prison Officers led by A.S.P. Denhart, and 3 ranks from the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard Section led by Petty Officer J. Grant.

The police said in a statement that during the search, the following prohibited items were found:

– 15 plastic bags containing 1048.1 grams of suspected cannabis (marijuana)

– 40 improvised weapons

– 29 lighters

– 4 pairs of scissors

– 2 pocket knives

– 2 cellular phones

The operation was completed without incident.
