Patentia man remanded over assault of wife

A Patentia, West Bank Demerara man was remanded to prison on February 14th when he appeared at the Wales Magistrate’s Court charged with the unlawful wounding of his reputed wife.

Magistrate Rondel Weever heard that around 3 am on Wednesday, February 12, Parsuram Arjune, 29, physically assaulted his reputed wife, Selena Samaroo, 23. 

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was refused bail. He is scheduled to return to court on February 26.

Reports are that an argument ensued between the two over a charger and Arjune started hitting Samaroo.

“In a release yesterday, the police said that Arjune was also accused of injuring Samaroo’s 40-year-old mother Shameeza Mohamed who has since passed away.

“As it relates to the injuries sustained by Ms. Mohamed — due to the unavailability of the medical at the time —- he was only charged for the injuries Ms. Samaroo suffered.  On 2025/02/17, Shameeza Mohamed died at the West Demerara Regional Hospital while receiving medical attention for injuries she sustained and other medical complications.

“A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted today (Wednesday) after which advice will be sought on the way forward.  The suspect remains on remand”, the police said.
