Auto-body mechanic, 22, stabbed to death in Skull City, friend injured

A 22-year-old auto-body mechanic was stabbed to death on Sunday night, allegedly by a friend, while another friend was injured while they were consuming alcoholic beverages at Skull City, Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

According to a police press release, Shivpersad Harridat of Lot 89 Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara is dead, while his friend Daimon Ramnarine, 26, was injured and the suspect has been taken into custody.

The release said investigations revealed that Harridat and other friends were at a shop in Skull City consuming alcoholic beverages during the day and he had a misunderstanding with the suspect, which escalated into a fight.

Later, at about 22:30 hrs, the release said, the suspect, who was armed with a knife, confronted Harridat and Ramnarine. The suspect dealt Harridat several stabs about the body and when Ramnarine tried to intervene, he was also stabbed, the release said.

The police said Ramnarine then picked up Harridat and drove to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, but Harridat died while receiving treatment. Ramnarine was also treated but took self-discharge and proceeded to a private hospital, the release said.

Police examined and photographed Harridat’s body, observing injuries suspected to be stab wounds on his left shoulder, left-side chest and other parts of his body, the release added. The police also confirmed yesterday that the suspect was captured around 11:00 am and is currently in custody assisting with investigation.

Sherron Harridat, the mother of the deceased, told the Stabroek News that she had received a phone call on Sunday night from her son’s school friend who lives in the area, informing her that he had been “stabbed up”. She said she was told “to go down to the Diamond Diagnostic hospital.” She explained that when she arrived at the hospital her son was not responding. The doctor performed CPR on him but he subsequently died.

The mother of four said that all the friends who were hanging out and drinking that night in Skull city with her son worked with him, including the suspect. The mother said it was the first time she heard they were fighting.

Harridat’s body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
