Guyana’s U-20 Women’s National Football Team delivered a commanding performance in the Concacaf U-20 Women’s Qualifiers, securing a resounding 5-0 victory over hosts Antigua and Barbuda in their second match of the tournament.
Leading the charge was Se-Hanna Mars, who netted a sensational hat-trick. She opened the scoring with a well-placed penalty in the 21st minute before adding two more in the second half, striking in the 63rd and 68th minutes. Liyah Menilek extended the lead with a goal in the 78th minute, while an own goal from Karmiellia Hughes in the 85th minute sealed the dominant win for the Guyanese side.
The result provisionally places Guyana second in Group A, with Haiti leading the standings after securing two wins from two matches. Despite their commanding victory, Guyana is unlikely to progress from the group stage, as only the six group winners will advance to the Concacaf U-20 Championship, the qualifying pathway to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Guyana had a challenging start to the tournament, battling Belize to a scoreless draw in their opening fixture. Their campaign was further disrupted by off-field issues, as five players were ruled ineligible to compete, affecting the team’s depth and strategy.
Despite the setbacks, the team showed resilience and determination in their clash against Antigua and Barbuda. They will now turn their attention to their final group stage match against Haiti today, where they aim to finish the tournament on a high note.
