Forty-four-year-old housewife Seeta Ghannie drowned in the Azeeza Akousa Creek, located along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, on the afternoon of February 24, 2025.
According to police reports, Seeta, along with her husband, 45-year-old contractor Vijay Ghannie, and other relatives, had visited the creek at approximately 2:00 p.m. for a day of relaxation. However, the day took a devastating turn when Seeta was discovered unconscious and submerged in the creek around 5:15 p.m.
Family members, including Vijay, had been in the water with Seeta, but when Vijay briefly stepped away to take a drink, he returned to find that his wife had disappeared. Relatives emerged from the water, but Seeta was nowhere to be found. Vijay raised the alarm and searched the area for her. After what felt like 15 minutes, Vijay found Seeta’s lifeless body submerged in the water.
Without wasting any time, he rushed her to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. James at approximately 6:22 p.m.
Authorities have confirmed that no signs of foul play were found on Seeta’s body, though Vijay Ghannie mentioned that his wife had a history of epileptic seizures. He speculated that she may have suffered a seizure while in the water, potentially leading to her death.
Seeta’s body has been transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the official cause of death.
