(Trinidad Express) Penal labourer Lucky Jagdeo whose body was found in a river a short distance from his home was strangled and beaten to death.
A post-mortem on Jagdeo, of Ramnarine Trace, San Francique, was done on Tuesday at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park.
Jagdeo suffered a similar fate to his brother, Antonio James, who was also beaten to death in July last year.
The body of Jagdeo was found in a river with injuries on his head and police have detained a suspect in the case.
The body of Jagdeo, with injuries to his head and forehead, was partially submerged in the river, which is approximately five metres beneath road level next to a concrete shed on the compound of the San Francique Sporting Complex on San Francique Road.
A police report stated that shortly after 12 a.m. on Monday, Jagdeo was liming and drinking alcohol with two men in the shed.
Investigators were told that Jagdeo and one of the men began to argue, and it escalated into a physical struggle.
The other man told the police he attempted to assist Jagdeo, but the man chased him away.
A short while later, the other man returned to the shed and found the body of Jagdeo in the river.
Officers of the Penal Police station and Homicide Bureau of Investigations of Region Three responded.
A district medical officer pronounced Jagdeo dead at the scene.
The suspect who was seen walking near the crime scene was arrested by W/Ag Sgt Monsegue.
The suspect was taken for medical attention at the Point Fortin Hospital and upon his discharge, into custody.
Jagdeo’s brother was found with his head bashed in on his mattress in his home next door to his mother and Jagdeo.
The case remains unsolved by detectives of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations of Region Three.
